Arrests Over Suspected Sham Marriage

Three men have been arrested just moments before taking part in a suspected sham marriage.

The men, who are originally from Pakistan, were arrested in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh on Monday afternoon, the Home Office confirmed.

Subsequent checks had revealed the men had entered the country illegally having travelled from Dublin. A 24-year-old Estonian woman from Dublin, who was the bride-to-be, was also arrested but later released. Her release was on the condition that she leaves the country voluntarily.

One of the men, aged 29, is understood to have been the "groom", while the other two men, aged 26 and 27, were there to act as witnesses. They were all arrested for illegally entering the UK. They remain in Home Office detention while steps are taken to remove them from the country.

Mike Golden for Home Office Immigration Enforcement, said: "We are carrying out frequent operations in Northern Ireland to crack down on suspected sham weddings.

"Where we receive information that a wedding may be suspicious we will investigate."
