Neil Morrissey Discusses Holden Affair

Neil Morrissey has spoken out about his former affair with Amanda Holden.

The actor opened up about the relationship during an interview with Piers Morgan for the journalist's 'Life Stories' series.

In 2000, Morrissey and Holden hit the headlines after they were revealed to be having an affair. Holden was married to comedian and gameshow host Les Dennis at the time.

In the months that followed, the former Men Behaving Badly star refused to discuss the scandal. Giving his reasons for the decision, he said: "I think enough was said about it. This was a very short fling. I didn't have any representation at the time, in terms of PR and this was the first time I'd really come under the cosh. Well you know, you were sending around my house."

He added: "It couldn't have been better copy [for the papers] could it, for most people? To think that I'm getting the blame.

"There were some hateful things that were said in the papers but it turns out it should be tomorrow's fish and chip paper, but people are still going on about it now."

Following the affair, Morrissey was branded as a "love rat" by many, but he explained: "That was the newspaper headlines, but I promise you, when I was walking past a building site, all the blokes would turn around and go, 'Go on Neil, go on son'. So yes, there's the other end of the scale too. I don't know what everyone truly thought of me."

Holden and Les Dennis tied the knot in June 1995. They temporarily separated in 2000 following Holden's infidelity, before eventually going their separate ways in December 2002. They divorced the following year. Morrissey, whose interview airs tomorrow on ITV, admitted he has since crossed paths with the comedian, but has not apologised for his role in the affair.

"Both of us are grown-ups," he stated. "Everyone's got on with their lives. Amanda's had various things to deal with in her career and her life, Les has got on with it as well – he's remarried, he's got babies. It's all worked out great.

"I'm not positive of what there is to apologise for. I don't know what the whole situation was, to be perfectly fair to everybody. I feel sorry for how the situation was dealt with and I feel sorry for how emotional Les seemed to get then after that. It was very difficult for him and for that I'm very sorry."
