25% Of Young People Now Live With Parents

New official figures have revealed that a quarter of young people in the UK now live with their parents.

More than 3.3 million adults, between the ages of 20 and 34, were found to still be living with their parents in 2013, which is 26% of that age group, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) claims.

The number has increased since 1996 by 669,000 people, even though the number of 20 to 34-year-olds in the UK remains virtually unchanged.

Young men were also found to be more likely to live at home than women, with one in three men, compared to one in five women.

Going by regions, London has the lowest rate of 20 to 34-year-olds living with their parents (22%), while Northern Ireland has the highest (36%). However, the ONS said the size of NI means it is more feasible to commute to work or university as opposed to other areas in the UK.
