Obesity Is A Turn-Off When Dating - Survey

A new study has revealed that obesity is the biggest turn-off when it comes to choosing a new partner.

The research, conducted by online saving site FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk, found that it is such an issue, that a majority of Britons polled would rather date a slim person they had nothing in common with, than someone who was overweight but shared the same interests as themselves.

And some 72% of respondents said they would never date an obese person, no matter how attractive their personality might be.

Other reasons given for rejecting a date included a lack of shared interests, poor personal hygiene and a bad fashion sense. Not being attractive enough, being a divorcee or not earning enough money were additional reasons produced for not agreeing to a date.

When it comes to securing their other half however, more than two-thirds of those polled said they considered themselves to be overweight, with many having tried to drop a dress size to attract a potential partner. In fact, 68% admitted they had exercised more and cut calories in an effort to attract a partner, while some changed their fashion sense or make-up. Others, decided to change the places they frequented.

A spokesperson for FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk said: "We were surprised that so many people were put off by how a person looked rather than whether they actually had anything in common with them or were fun to be around.

"It's all down to personal preference, and thankfully we're all different, so it's safe to say there is someone out there for most of us."

The top ten dating 'turn-offs' are:

1. Obesity (72%)

2. Poor personal hygiene (69%)

3. Bad fashion sense (58%)

4. No sense of humour (52%)

5. Lack of shared interests (51%)

6. Ugly (49%)

7. Already has children (32%)

8. Divorcee (28%)

9. Doesn't earn enough (25%)

10. Drives an old car (9%)
