A Fifth Of Cheaters 'Have Two SIM Cards'

A new study has revealed the methods some cheating partners use in an attempt to keep their affair a secret from their other half.

The research, carried out by SIMOnlyContracts.co.uk, found that as many as one in five cheating Brits choose to stay in touch with their lovers by using a second, secret SIM card on their phone.

Some 21% admitted they hide their infidelity through different SIM cards, while a bold 19% said they didn't think they needed to cover their tracks because their partner trusts them and don't suspect that they are having an affair.

Of those taking part in the poll, more than 1,100 admitted to having an affair over the past five years. They were subsequently asked what role technology played in their infidelity.

For example, when asked how they kept in touch with their lover, 72% said they used a mobile phone, while 18% said email and online chat rooms (10%).

Around a fifth of participants who used a mobile, however, said they had a second SIM card to ensure their partner did not discover the messages. Other ways to keep an affair secret, was to put a lock screen on the phone (21%), using a pseudonym for their lover (18%) and deleting messages (16%). For 12% of respondents, they even went as far as to purchase a separate phone.

When asked if they had been caught out with regards to their infidelity, 56% said their partner was still was unaware of their affair, 31% said they had been found out while just 13% admitted the truth to their other half.

Roshan Bholah, founder of SIMOnlyContracts.co.uk said he was surprised at the measures people will go to in order to keep their affair a secret.

He said: "We're surprised to hear that a large number of cheating Britons prefer to purchase a second SIM card when it's possible to put a complex locking system onto your phone.

"Although, I suppose if your partner knows how to access your phone, you wouldn't want to run the risk of them seeing what you've been up to.

"Whilst we obviously don't condone or encourage infidelity, purchasing a second SIM card is possibly one of the sneakiest tricks you could use to keep your affair secret.

"If you were to purchase a second phone, you run the risk of your partner finding it; if your lover contacts you on your personal mobile, you run the risk of your partner seeing the texts or answering a phone call; and if you were to communicate with them online, you run the risk of your partner digging up your online history.

"A SIM card is easy to hide and, whilst it can be a pain to change the SIM, you're less likely to get caught out."
