Last year, the 33-year-old was found guilty of helping her husband set a fire in their home. The fire claimed the lives of six of their children.
Now, according to The Sun, Mrs Philpott – who was sentenced to 17 years for manslaughter – is understood to have been exchanging romantic letters with Paul Mosely, 47. Mr Mosley was a friend of the couple and was also sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in the crime.
A source is quoted by the publication as saying: "She wants to see Mosley as soon as they get out. It's a love triangle from hell.
"She's finally realised what a swine Mick is — plus he could still be inside for years after she is out."
Mick Philpott masterminded a scheme to get a bigger council house by burning down his Derby home and attempting to frame ex-lover Lisa Willis for the crime. He had planned to rescue his sleeping children through an upstairs window, but his plan went horribly wrong and the six children were killed in the fire.
Mr Philpott was sentenced to life in prison for his crime.
Mick and Mairead married in 2003.
