Last month, the television presenter completed a seven day, 500-mile journey from Edinburgh to London by running, swimming and cycling. The trek raised almost £1m for the charity, but speaking to The Sun, 46-year-old McCall admitted the challenge also put a strain on her marriage to Matthew Robertson.
She admitted: "We just had a really difficult six months. Matthew's dad was ill and I was doing the challenge and he had hurt his shoulder.
"We were not arguing but it had been tough for the both of us. We both had been in a kind of tough place but now we are here we have been on holiday."
She continued: "Getting through stuff like that makes the next step better... You always have to think when you are in a relationship that if you have a tough six months then that is nothing in the scheme of things.
"When you are in your 20s and you have a tough six months then that is a break-up. When you are married, it is nothing."
McCall and Robertson have been married for 14 years and have three children together – two daughters and a son.
