According to The Northern Echo, teaching assistant Jane Gettings, who is due to marry her fiancé tomorrow (22 March), was presented with the gift from a colleague.
Ms Gettings is understood to eat three or four bags of crisps a day, and this inspired her fellow staff at Harelaw School in Co Durham to come up with the idea. They asked local snack maker, Phileas Fogg, for empty crisp packets before art teacher Louise Oliver turned a number of them into a wedding dress – which came complete with a train.
Gettings, 47, was also thrown a surprise wedding party by the school. She was chauffeur driven to the school where she was greeted by pupils. They then formed a guard of honour after she changed into her unique wedding gown. As The Wedding March played in the background, the bride-to-be's partner was waiting for her and they married in a mock ceremony. A disco and buffet was held for the pupils afterwards.
Speaking to the paper, Ms Gettings admitted: "It is amazing. I cried when I first saw it. I have been wearing it. It is quite comfortable but a bit hot.
"I am not wearing it for the actual ceremony, but I will wear it for a bit on the night time."
Gettings and her partner, Paul Turnbull, will tie the knot on Saturday – 25 years to the day since they met. The couple have two children together, Jamie, 25, and 13-year-old Abbie.
