Superstition To Blame For Wedding Hire Decline?

A superstition that 2013 could be viewed as an unlucky year for couples wishing to marry could have contributed to the fall in wedding hire sales, it has been reported.

Publishing its preliminary results for the last year, Moss Bros said the formalwear hire specialist, said it saw a fall of 9.5% in its wedding hire sales last year. It added that its evening wear, school prom and Ascot lines increased by 3.2% to cover some of the shortfall.

It is not sure what caused the decline in wedding hire sales, but in a statement, Brian Brick, Chief Executive of Moss Bros, said: "As reported in the media, 2013 was a difficult year for the wedding hire market. This may have been due, in part, to the widely reported '2013 effect' of customers avoiding an unlucky year, although there is no conclusive evidence of this."
