People More Likely To Cheat If Their Parents Are Unfaithful

A new study has revealed that women are more likely to cheat on their other half – if their mother also had an affair.

The poll, conducted by Illicit Encounters, found that around seven in 10 women who cheat on their husbands have mothers who were unfaithful to their partner. Interestingly, men are also more likely to be unfaithful if their fathers also strayed, but just 54% of men said cheating ran in the family. This compares to 73% of women who cheated on their partners – and whose mums had also done the same. While 62% of those females admitted their mother's philandering had made it more likely that they would stray as well.

When it comes to being exposed, 22% of female cheats said disapproval from their mother would make them put an end to the affair, compared to 42% of those whose mothers remained faithful. An additional 32% of women adulteresses felt their mother's infidelity gave them "permission" to cheat – as the 'trend' runs in the family and therefore would not be a surprise.

Of the men who have affairs, 54% said their father cheating meant it was more likely they would have them too, but just 25% said they would actually stop an affair if their unfaithful father told them to.

A spokesperson for the website Illicit Encounters said: "If you want to know if your wife will cheat, you may want to take a close look at your mother-in-law.

"Cheating does run in the family, particularly on the female side.

"Women idolise their mother as they grow up and follow their good and bad behaviour.

"If their parents divorce or their mother confides in them about previous affairs, women are far more likely to do the same when they marry themselves."
