In an interview with ITV's This Morning, the Atomic Kitten singer was visibly upset as relieved the moment both she and her daughter almost died.
She explained that she had been given an epidural during the labour which sent her into "some kind of weird out-of-body experience", and which left her baby girl struggling to breathe.
"They put her on my chest and something just didn't feel right," the 33-year-old added. "The baby's not breathing, so they took her off me.
"A crash team came and took her off me and she completely died."
Katona, who is a mum of four, added that complications following the birth also placed her life in extreme danger. Her fiancé, former rugby player George Kay, added: "In my lifetime I've seen some horrific things but the thought of losing your two most loved people at the same time... I was a mess."
Dylan is the first child for Kay, while his partner is also a mum to Molly, 12, Lilly-Sue, 11, Heidi, seven, and five-year-old Max from previous relationships.
