According to The Sun, 53-year-old Clooney is said to have suggested the historic Highclere Castle in Hampshire for the couple's big day. The venue is where the popular drama Downton Abbey is filmed, and it is thought the actor arranged for a tour of the site with fellow actor Hugh Bonneville.
However, the venue is also where Katie Price held her wedding to Peter Andre in 2005 and Ms Alamuddin was informed of this information by a friend.
A source is quoted by the paper as saying: "Amal doesn't really know that much about celebrity. But she is well aware who Katie Price is and didn't want her big day to be in any way associated with that kind of media circus.
"So they've gone back to the drawing board and are looking at other places."
In April, it was reported that Clooney and Alamuddin, 36 and who is a human rights lawyer based in London, had become engaged. The couple did not confirm the news at first, but Alamuddin's law firm later confirmed the engagement.
The couple are thought to have started dating in 2013.
