Parents 'Hide' In The Bathroom For A Break

Almost two-thirds of parents admit to trying to escape to a room in their house for some peace and quiet from their children.

The study, which has been carried out by Villeroy & Boch Bathroom and Wellness, 64% of parents have sought refuge in a certain room in particular – the bathroom.

And the most common time for hiding comes in the afternoon, with 3.53pm being the time a majority of parents head to the toilet or bathroom for some "me time".

Of those parents plotting their escape, 69% are mothers.

They are able to average 15 minutes of "me time" before they are tracked down by their children, while fathers are able to grab just 13 minutes of peace.

Elsewhere in the survey, in a typical week, parents hide out in the bathroom an average of three and a half times. However, while a third said they are happy to lock the bathroom door so that they can relax without interruptions, 34% said they don't tell anyone where they are going, while 18% feel confessed they felt guilty or embarrassed at having to hide in the bathroom.

David Millon, Marketing Director for Villeroy & Boch Bathroom and Wellness, commented: "In today's world, with all-purpose family rooms and endless 'to do' lists that never seem to include 'time alone with my thoughts', the bathroom offers frantic parents the chance to get away from prams, painting and jam fingers for a few precious minutes.

"Even if it's just a matter of taking 15 minutes to relax in a bath, it's important that parents remember to get that 'me time' each day to recharge."
