The former Eastenders' actress revealed earlier this year that she was expecting a child with her fiancé Tom Richards. However, at the start of June, she confirmed she suffered a miscarriage.
In a recent interview with OK! magazine, the 40-year-old has now spoken out about her loss and how it has also affected her family.
Westbrook, who is already a mum to Kai, 17, and 12-year-old Jody from previous relationships, said: "My kids look to me for a reaction – if I start to fall apart, they fall apart.
"But I woke up the other morning and it broke my heart – I'm absolutely shattered.
"I'm a parent already, Tom wants to be a parent and it was his first child. But it's upsetting for all of us. My kids were devastated, especially my little girl."
"She was at home with me," she continued. "I had to say, 'I've got to go to hospital, I'm not feeling well.' Afterwards, I tried to explain it to her in a way that she doesn't feel she's mourning a big death.
"It was a shock, because I wasn't feeling poorly or anything. I didn't want to go to hospital because I didn't want to believe it was happening... there was no pain."
And when asked if the couple would try again for another child, Westbrook added that they would: "Straightaway – as soon as they say to me, 'You're okay'.
"I don't regret a single thing. I'm just glad I know I can get pregnant, and that we've got the help to make sure I'm carrying the right way."
Westbrook and Richards, 24, have been in a relationship since March, and within weeks of dating, they announced their engagement. Westbrook was previously married to Kevin Jenkins – their 12 year marriage came to an end in January 2014.
