Brides Spend 36 Days Planning Their Big Day

Brides spend a total of 36 planning their wedding, compared to their other half – who spends just six days preparing for the big day.

The bride's mother even spends more time than the groom-to-be when its comes to preparations, the survey by Vashi.com found, with a total of 18 days.

Despite spending more than a month on wedding planning, 74% of brides admitted they already have most of the 'big decisions' made before they have even met the man of their dreams. These decisions include whether the couple will have a church wedding, or a smaller register office wedding. A further 32% said they had chosen a dress – while they were still single – while 24% know the style of engagement ring they would like.

It's fair to say that a majority of the planning is carried out by the woman – 87% of those polled admitted it is the bride that does most of the work, while just 3% of men primarily plan their big day. However, just four in 10 brides admitted they wanted their partner to have a bigger say in their wedding. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for the mother of the bride, as 21% of women wished their mother had played a less prominent role in their wedding day.

While 54% of brides spend an average of 36 days planning, 18% said they had spent more than 60 days arranging the wedding, with catering and the venue being labelled the most time-consuming aspect of the day.

Commenting on the findings, Vashi Dominguez, CEO and founder of Vashi.com, said: "What this survey shows is that a couple's wedding day is still the biggest even of their lives. What else does a woman spend 36 days planning? That is why it is so important to get it right.

"It's great that a quarter of women have picked their engagement ring even before meeting the groom. That is the kind of attention to detail which will result in a good choice that they will be content with for a lifetime.

"We tend to find that the brides who are happiest with their rings are those who make their choice beforehand with their groom."
