A Man's Dream Woman 'Is In Her 20s'

A new study has claimed that no matter what age a man is, his 'ideal woman' will always be in her mid-20s.

For women, they are more realistic, with their 'ideal man' closer to their own age, or slightly older. In fact, of those who took part in the research, which has been published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior, a majority of women said they are in a relationship with a man who is a couple of years older than them.

A team of researchers from Abo Akademi University in Turku, Finland, asked more than 12,500 men and women about their partner. This included their age, as well as the age of those they felt most attracted to.

For men, the most common age was found to be around 24 or 25, with men in their late teens or early 20s saying they fancied women who were slightly older. The older men surveyed, said they preferred younger females.

Commenting on the results, the researchers said evolution could be to the reason as it has "programmed" men to desire women in their mid 20s because they are viewed as highly fertile. In other words, they have the highest odds of having the man's child and passing on his genes to any offspring.

Interestingly, however, when women were asked the same question regarding age, the findings were very different. They believe men who are the same age, or slightly older, are actually the most attractive. The biggest age gap was for women in their late teens and early 20s, who fancied men around four years older.

Jan Antfolk, a researcher from the university, explained that a slightly older man is more likely to have money and stability to raise a family when compared to a younger counterpart. In addition, while a much older man may have even more money to his name, he is also more likely to die while his family are young.
