Rory McIlroy Denies Relationship Rumours

Rory McIlroy has denied reports that he is in a relationship, or currently looking for a relationship.

The World Number 1 golfer, who hails from Holywood in Co Down, made the comments in a BBC Northern Ireland documentary that airs today (25 September), on the eve of this year's Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

The 25-year-old said: "Golf is my girlfriend at the minute and it's going to be that way for a while. I'm at the stage of my career and the stage of my life when I'm putting golf first.

"Golf is the priority for me right now. For the foreseeable future that is what it is going to be."

He added that the travelling aspect of his life also made a relationship hard.

"We're never really in the same place for very long. It is hard to keep relationships going [even] if you want to start one," he admitted.

McIlroy's comments come just a few months after he ended his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

In May, McIlroy released a statement confirming the couple were no longer together. The news of the split was announced days after the pair had sent out their wedding invitations. At the time, the golfer said: "The problem is mine".

McIlroy and Wozniacki, 23, started dating in the summer of 2011.

On New Year's Eve 2013, the couple announced their engagement.
