McIntosh and Brook first met at a New Year's Eve party last year and in March they announced their engagement. Last month, the couple confirmed they had ended their romance.
It has been speculated that McIntosh was unfaithful to his partner, and last week he hit out at allegations that he dated a woman called Sarah Harper while he was still engaged to Brook.
According to Closer, Reid, 39, has since reached out to the former Gladiators' star, saying he sympathises with him. Reid has been in a similar position following very public splits from Katie Price and Chantelle Houghton.
In his open letter, he wrote: "Whether you're guilty of what Sarah Harper has accused you of or not, at the end of the day, you haven't committed a murder.
"Remember, if you want to win a fight, you don't necessarily have to use your fists – it's all about survival. It's sad but there'll always be somebody wanting to make a quick buck. Money is the devil."
He continued: "If you love someone and you want it to work, you've got to fight for it. But you've also got to see that if it's not going to happen, it won't.
"I actually used a hypnotherapist to deal with the stress of it all, and coaches to help concentrate on breathing."
He ended the note, advising McIntosh, 28, to concentrate on the positive things in life: "When I watch the news about what's going on in the world, I always think. 'What have I got to worry about?' It gives you a different perspective on things."
Reid was married to model Katie Price from February 2010 until January 2011. He later dated fellow Celebrity Big Brother star Chantelle Houghton. In June 2012, Reid and Houghton welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Dolly. They have since separated.
