Earlier this week, the 64-year-old and his fiancée Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, 40, were expecting triplets.
Wonder has now spoken out and said the reports are not true, but the couple are to become parents again – to just one child.
Appearing on US television show The View, the singer said: "It's not true [triplets]. The truth is we're going to have a wonderful daughter, born in December. Her name is going to be Nia, which is 'purpose'.
"Rumours spread, and like I said before in the song Superstition, when you believe in things you don't understand you suffer. So, you know, that was a bunch of bull."
He then joked: "I've got how many – 22 kids?"
This will be Wonder's eighth child. His children are aged between one and 39.
