Dec, one half of television duo 'Ant and Dec', asked his girlfriend Ali Astall to marry him last week.
The engagement news came as a surprise to many, no more so than Ant, who, in an interview with the Daily Mirror, admitted: "No, he did it [the proposal] all himself. I'm very proud of him. Good lad."
Donnelly added: "It just seemed like the right time. So yeah, I just did it."
The television personality and his fiancée have known each other for a decade, but have only been dating for around 18 months.
Last Friday, the 39-year-old took to Twitter to tell his fans: "Hey, just wanted to say a big thank you for all the lovely messages over the last couple of days. Really appreciate it. Very happy boy."
No further details have been revealed regarding the engagement, but according to reports, the pair plan to marry in 2015.
