Men 'More Likely To Help Women Who Wear Heels'

A new study has claimed that men are more likely to help a woman if she is wearing high heels rather than flat shoes.

The research, which has been carried out by French researcher, Professor Nicholas Guéguen, from the University of South Brittany and published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, also found that the higher the heel, the more willing men are to offer assistance.

The professor staged a number of experiments, ranging from taking part in a survey to picking up a glove dropped by a woman.

The first experiment revealed that men were more likely to agree to fill in a questionnaire if they were stopped in the street by a woman wearing heels rather than flats. Of the women who wore flat shoes, 25 out of 60 men stopped and agreed to the survey, while when the women were wearing two-inch heels, 36 out of 60 men stopped. Interestingly, when the heel size increased to almost four inches, 49 out of 60 men that were approached agreed to answer the questionnaire.

Commenting on the findings, Professor Guéguen is quoted as saying: "Men responded more favourably to the survey request as soon as the length of her heels increased."

In the second experiment, men were almost twice as likely to return a glove to a woman if she was wearing high heels. In fact, 56 out of 60 men stopped or caught up with a female who dropped a glove – while walking ahead of them in the shoes.

The final experiment monitored how long it took men, standing drinking at a bar, to approach a woman who was sitting alone at a nearby table. Again, men were almost twice as quick to chat up a woman wearing heels compared to a woman wearing flats.

Guéguen noted: "Women's shoe heel size exerts a powerful influence on men's behaviour."

He also admitted that he is unsure as to why high heels can made a woman more attractive, but it could be that wearing the shoes helps to change a her gait and therefore make her appear more feminine.
