22% Of Men Will Treat Their Partner To A Holiday For Christmas

Around a fifth of men will treat their partner to a holiday as their Christmas present this year.

The poll, which has been commissioned by sunshine.co.uk, asked 2,178 people, aged 18 and over and who are in a relationship, what they would be buying their other half for Christmas. Interestingly, men and women had very different ideas when it comes to buying gifts.

For the men, 22% said they would be surprising their partner with a holiday, while 20% said they had bought jewellery. Shoes/boots (18%), clothes (16%) and a handbag (14%) were also popular choices to present to the women in their life this festive season.

When it comes to what females will buy their other half, however, holidays failed to make the list. Clothing was the most popular gift with 55% of women, with 27% saying they will buy their partner gadgets, such as a tablet or phone. For 21%, they will be purchasing an experience day, while 17% opted for sports or concert tickets. This is closely followed by 15% of women who are opting for DVDs or CDs.

On average, women said they would by buying their partner an average of six gifts – compared to men who will give just three gifts. In addition, while the females will spend around £270 on their loved one, men will spend just £140.

However, not all couples will be as lucky this festive season, as 7% of women and 11% of men have admitted they will not be buying their partner anything.

Of those, 42% of women said they simply couldn't afford to buy anything, while 31% of men honestly replied that they didn't know where to start.

Commenting on the findings, Sue Anderson, sunshine.co.uk, said: "A surprise trip away makes for a great gift, but a lot of planning often has to go into it.

"For example, contacting your partner's place of work if you're planning to take them away during work time and packing their case for them if you aren't telling them until the last minute!

"It seems that a lot of women will be surprised with this kind of gift this Christmas, if our results are anything to go by."
