According to People magazine, the news was revealed earlier this week when Ms Mullins attended the L'Oréal Paris Women Of Worth Awards in New York.
A source is quoted by the publication as saying that the host of the event gave the sportswoman a "congratulatory shout-out when calling her up to the stage, which prompted a ton of applause from the audience.
"It was really sweet because Aimee was tight-lipped about it earlier in the night, not wanting to take attention from the honorees."
It is understood Mullins, who is also a L'Oréal spokesperson, did not wear her engagement ring to the event, but the insider added: "He [Friend] was very doting the whole night, pulling out her chair, opening the car door. They were really adorable, just enjoying the night and each other's company."
Friend, 33, and Mullins, 38, started dating in 2013.
