The singer has not been seen in a number of weeks but in a private conversation with a fan recently, she admitted she was ill. This then led to speculation that the 30-year-old was pregnant with her first child.
In a private message to a fan on Twitter, the singer wrote: "I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them no why I've been absent. I'm torn as I'm quite private.
"I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."
The fan, @AvrilMusicChart, later posted the message: "#GetWellSoonAvril" and "#PrayForAvril", with the singer replying: "Thank you".
She didn't elaborate on the illness, but a representative for the Canadian has confirmed that Lavigne is not pregnant.
The singer started dating Nickleback star Chad Kroeger in February 2012. In July 2013, the couple married in a lavish ceremony at the medieval castle, Chateau de la Napoule, near Cannes in France.
