On Saturday night, the X Factor judge missed the first night of the talent show's final after she was admitted to hospital. No reason was given for why the hospital admission, but she was said to have been seriously ill. The following evening the 39-year-old did make it to the X Factor final and shortly after the programme started on Sunday night, Mel B said: "I really missed being here but thanks to all the doctors and nurses who took care of me and got me here tonight."
When asked if she was feeling better by host Dermot O'Leary, she added: "Yes – ish."
However, within moments of her appearing on stage, social media pointed out the singer's "swollen" and "bruised" face, as well as scratch marks on her upper arms. She also failed to wear her wedding ring, which led to a number of people suggesting that Mel was the victim of an alleged domestic incident.
This morning (Monday), Belafonte, 39, hit back at the claims. He wrote: "I don't usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting un true!
"Mel was very ill a bunch of doctors helped her get better if fans can't just relax B4 being negative they r not real fans of @OfficialMelB (sic)."
