A new survey has revealed the top wedding day regrets of couples throughout Ireland.
The study, commissioned by www.weddingsonline.ie, questioned more than 2,000 couples about organising their big day.
Currently, the average cost for a wedding is said to be more than €20,000 (€21,219), but 5% of respondents confessed they would spend more than €30,000 on their wedding day. Almost one in five couples (18%) said they would need to take out a loan in order to help pay for their wedding, while 21% received help from the bank of mum and dad.
When it comes to the venue, civil non-religious ceremonies continue to increase in popularity, with more than a quarter going for this option instead of a church wedding. The average guestlist will consist of 151 people, but 20% will opt for more than 200 guests. When it comes to the meal, the average price per head was found to be €60.03.
Elsewhere, social media is playing more and more of a key role when it comes to wedding planning. For example, 66% will use Pinterest and 53% use Facebook to help with their preparations, while Instagram also proved popular.
Some things remain unchanged though, with Saturday continuing to be the most popular day of the week to tie the knot (40%), while August remains the most popular month (15%).
Following the wedding, most couples still go abroad for their honeymoon (90%), with the most popular destinations being ITALY, the Maldives and the USA.
It isn't all good news though, as many couples admitted they had regrets about some aspects of heir wedding – with interfering relatives topping the list. This was followed by bridesmaids' complaining because they didn't like their dress, and failing to save for their big day earlier.
