David Essex Reveals He Is A Father Again

David Essex has revealed he has become a father for the fifth time.

The singer-turned-actor and his wife, Susan Hallam-Wright welcomed their son Sonny last year, but Essex has only revealed the news.

It is the couple's first child together, and speaking to the Sunday Mirror, the 67-year-old admitted: "Sonny's waking us at 5am, but it's just wonderful to have another boy.

"He's crawling around now. I play rough and tumble with him, we roll about. I sing made up nursery rhymes like 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Sausage' and we watch In the Night Garden – I'm a big fan of Makka Pakka."

In addition to Sonny, Essex is a father of four grown-up children. Daughter Verity, 42, and son Danny, 37, are his children from his first marriage to childhood sweetheart Maureen Neal, while 26-year-old twins Billy and Kit are from his second marriage to Carlotta Christy. The singer also has six grandchildren.

He joked to the publication: "We breed like rabbits, us Cooks."

He added: "My priority in life has always been family. I actually think children teach you to be a man.

"My kids are the best thing ever. They've got different mums, which is just the way things happen sometimes, but they all get on. They're great."

And on the possibility of adding to his family again in the future, he simply replied: "We'll see how it goes."
