The actress, who is currently expecting her first child with husband James Righton, made the admission during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The 34-year-old and her partner have been making a number of red carpet appearances lately and ahead of the Academy Awards this weekend, she said: "I'm up for an Oscar and I can't drink at the Oscars... I just want a Margarita.
"My husband is having a great time. I'm eating for two and he's drinking for two. There's a lot of free champagne at these things, and I think he thinks because I'm not drinking the free champagne, he has to."
Following weeks of speculation, Knightley confirmed her pregnancy in December 2014, but she has now said neither she nor her husband are quite ready for the pitter-patter of tiny feet.
She joked: "What is the [birthing] plan? Apart from to get it out?! I'm assuming my plan is to get it out, but apparently there is more to the plan that that. I don't know what that is."
Knightley and Righton started dating in February 2011 having met through a mutual friend. The couple married in a small intimate ceremony in France in May 2013.
