Date For Ireland's Same-Sex Marriage Referendum

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he expects Ireland to hold a referendum regarding same-sex marriage in May this year.

Speaking to RTÉ's 'Prime Time', Mr Kenny gave an estimated date of Friday 22 May.

He added that he hoped there would be support for the referendum and it is about tolerance, respect and sensitivity.

Same-sex couples in Ireland have been able to enter a civil partnership since January 2011, but not a marriage.
