Poll Unveils Sexiest Rugby Players

A new poll has revealed which rugby players women find the sexiest, with the results producing a few surprises.

The survey, commissioned by dating website Illicit Encounters, asked 1,000 women from Ireland which rugby player they would most like to sleep with.

Interestingly, though, it wasn't players such as Tommy Bowe or Brian O'Driscoll claiming the top spot.

Rather, it was their Ireland teammate Paul O'Connell. The second-rower, who also plays for Munster, secured 23% of the vote.

Coming in at second place with 20% of the vote, was Leinster and Ireland player Rob Kearney. Brian O'Driscoll, who retired from the game last year, only managed to make it into third place (17%), while Ulster's Tommy Bowe came fourth (15%) and Ronan O'Gara claimed the fifth spot with 13%.

The women who took part in the survey were also asked why they didn't go for O'Connell's teammates. For some, they felt Rob Kearney was "too boring", while O'Driscoll was said to be "too squeaky clean". And for Tommy Bowe? His Monaghan accent proves a sticking point – as women can't understand what he is saying.

Claire Page, a spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, is quoted by the Belfast Telegraph as saying: "He [Paul] looks a bit like Hell Boy but he's also very funny and intelligent, as we've seen on his Late Late show interviews.

"Putting that with his amazing physique – I mean, he's tall, broad and his upper body strength is so impressive, he's able to bench press over 180 kg – it's not hard to see why women across Ireland find him so attractive."

Lucy Redford, a psychologist, added: "There is certainly something to be said about extremely muscular physiques triggering primal emotions of submissiveness in women. However, oftentimes there is actually a threshold of muscularity that can result in negative stereotyping once passed.

"Lack of depth, lack of intelligence, simple mindedness, aggressiveness, insecurity, and narcissism are all perceived traits that people prejudge in bodybuilders.

"However, Paul O'Connell has proven on numerous interviews he is much more than this – he's calm under pressure, skilled, passionate on the field and has a great sense of humour. Being witty goes a long way, with both sexes."
