Newlyweds Benefit From Holiday Freebies

A new survey has revealed that newlyweds often benefit from "honeymoon freebies", if they mention their recent wedding into conversation.

The research, conducted by sunshine.co.uk, asked 1,874 people from the UK, who had already been on their honeymoon, about their holiday.

When asked, 'Were you offered any complimentary goods and services during your honeymoon when staff realised (or were informed) that you were newlyweds?', a significant amount (74%), said 'yes'.

Of those, they were asked not to include goods or services offered as part of an all-inclusive deal, but rather additional goods or services they had been given.

Topping the list, was a room upgrade (41%), with complimentary alcohol (39%) and room treats/hampers (25%) claiming second and third spot, respectively. Free spa treatments (19%) and complimentary meals (13%) rounded out the top five benefits for newlyweds on their honeymoon.

Respondents were then asked to guess the value of the goods and services they had received for free on their honeymoon – with the average amount said to be around £430.

Sue Anderson, from sunshine.co.uk, said of the findings: "Honeymooners can often benefit from freebies during their stays abroad, but our top advice for newlyweds would be to pack a copy of their wedding certificate as proof that they've recently married. Hotels and service providers will often ask for this, to prevent couples telling a fib just to get an upgrade."
