For couples heading away on holiday, many will research a number of hotels and have a list of requirements they would like from their accommodation. However, it is these requirements which differ between men and women.
According to sunshine.co.uk, who conducted the poll, 1,782 adults were asked about the features they look for in a hotel room. The participants had all been on holiday within the past year and stayed in a hotel.
They were asked, 'What do you prioritise when booking a hotel room for a holiday abroad?', with those taking part able to select from a list of possible answers. Looking at the men first of all, their top five priorities when booking a hotel abroad are; air conditioning (76%), a complimentary mini-bar (61%), big screen television (52%), a balcony or terrace (34%), and a daily housekeeping service (27%).
For the women, meanwhile, their answers varied. 85% said they prioritised a sea-view from their room when picking a hotel, for example. This was followed by 59% wanting a roll top or freestanding bath, and 56% wanting a comfortable or feature bed. Cleanliness was also important for 51% of females polled, with complimentary toiletries (38%) rounding off the top five.
Setting room features aside, respondents were also asked how much they would pay for a hotel room on holiday – per room, per night. Again, the answers differed greatly between the men and women. Men, for example, revealed they would pay an average of £55. This compares to women, who gave an average of £165.
Sue Anderson, from sunshine.co.uk, said of the findings: "Men and women clearly have different ideas of what makes a hotel room meet their standards. It was interesting for us to see what those differences were exactly, and we were quite surprised by the results.
"The fact that, for men, having a big screen TV on their hotel room wish-list seems to suggest that they plan to spend more time in the hotel room than women perhaps do. On the other hand, the freestanding bath selection by women suggests that they perhaps look for a touch of luxury."
