There was speculation that the 63-year-old had tied the knot with his long-time partner Jeanne Marine last month, but the singer has now confirmed that the reports were accurate.
In an interview with The Sun, Geldof admitted: “I'm really happy. It was a good day. It was great fun.”
He added: “Why did she like me? It is a late realisation for the ageing Geldof that all humans are loveable. I love her. I thought I would never get this again.
“It was an improbable encounter between a woman who doesn't speak English and a boy who doesn't speak French, between a stunning, beautiful woman and a ruined, ruined man.”
Geldof proposed to Marine last year, after his daughter Peaches died from a heroin overdose. The singer was previously married to the late Paula Yates. The couple had three together.
In May 2014, Geldof confirmed his engagement to Marine – after 18 years together.
