Investigation Following Death Of Newborn

Ireland's Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed an investigation has been launched after a newborn baby died at Cavan General Hospital.

According to RTÉ, the baby died on Tuesday in the maternity unit of the hospital.


No further details have been released.

In a statement, the HSE said management at the hospital offered its "deepest sympathy" to the family and hoped they would "be given the privacy that they need to deal with their grief."

The organisation added: "The hospital will give the family every assistance and support required. As is normal practice, a full review of the circumstances surrounding the death will be carried out."
