Parents' Guilt Over Lack Of Quality Family Time

A new survey has revealed that a number of parents feel guilty over the lack of quality time they are able to spend with their family.

The research, commissioned by Little Tykes, involved 2,000 parents and it was found that they feel guilty up to seven times a week due to the little time they spend with their children. A majority said they were left feeling guilty over the lack of time they had to play with their offspring, while others said they felt bad because they did not go on more family days out, they worked long hours, or they didn't have enough patience.

The survey also found that many parents believe they are to blame over not earning enough money and that they should be more fun. Eight in 10 even admitted they worry over whether they are a good enough parent.

Of the mothers who responded, many said they felt bad for wanting to return to the workplace after maternity leave, while fathers felt guilty over having to go to work, and leave their partner and newborn at home.

A spokesperson for Little Tikes is quoted in the MailOnline as saying: "It's only natural for parents to have worries about whether or not they're doing things well, and the fact that they have this worry probably means they're doing a better job than they give themselves credit for.

"The list of parenting guilt triggers will be familiar for many a mum and dad and much of them stem from feeling they don't get enough time to really get active and enjoy playing with their young ones.

"Work pressures and packed schedules will always be problematic, but making the effort to get outdoors and enjoy some traditional play as a family will go a long way in alleviating any worries about that work-family balance."
