Goodman, however, is in a relationship with footballer Jordan Clark, and according to The Sun, she told Malik this.
A source is quoted by the publication as alleging the singer messaged the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant to ask: 'Do you have a boyfriend at the mo?'
The source added: "Chloe was shocked by the messages. She knew Zayn had only just split from Perrie and couldn't believe he was already looking elsewhere.
"She told him she had been with her boyfriend for a long time. He seemed to accept that, and told her if he hadn't asked he would have ended up being 'rude'."
Since the claims have come to light, Goodman is now said to have received nasty messages and death threats from a number of One Direction fans.
The insider continued: "Chloe has been really upset by the threats, particularly as she did nothing wrong."
Malik and his former fiancée Edwards first met in 2011 on the set of The X Factor – the former One Direction member was appearing on the show with the band, while Edwards was a contestant with Little Mix on the series. The couple confirmed their relationship the following year. They announced their engagement in 2013.
