The couple met when they were 14 years old, and have three children together, but it was only earlier this year that they announced they were now engaged.
Now, the actor has discussed the couple's lengthy relationship in an extract from his book, 'According To Danny Dyer: Life Lessons From The East End', which is being serialised in The Sun On Sunday. He admits: "Me and Joanne have had our ups and downs, and even broke up for a spell. That was the worst time of my life.
"I was utterly and completely lost, doing mad, self-destructive things that seemed like fun at the time but, looking back, were just covering up how unhappy I was."
Dyer, 38, is due to tie the knot with Jo next year. The couple have been together since 1992 and have three children together; daughters Dani and Sunnie, and son Arty. In March 2015, the couple announced their engagement.
