Simon Cowell has revealed he was worried that he wasn't bonding with his son, Eric, when he was a baby. The 56-year-old X Factor judge, who became a father for the first time in February 2014, made the comments during an interview with Susanna Reid on ITV's Good Morning Britain.
Discussing fatherhood, Cowell admitted: "I'm great with puppies because a puppy will respond, but babies at a certain age don't do anything so when he was about five or six [months old] I was like: 'I just don't know what to do.'
"He wasn't reacting to me and I thought maybe he hates me. And they said, 'No, take your time.' And then one day they are talking, listening, responding and also they sort of become a bit like you, which I don't know is a good thing or a bad thing! He's a funny little thing.
"He loves music, and when I say loves it, loves it! Fortunately one of the first records I got on tape of him playing along to was a One Direction record, so he's got good taste."
Cowell became a father for the first time on Valentine's Day 2014. In July 2013, media in the US broke the news that the millionaire was expecting a child with US socialite Lauren Silverman. At the time, the socialite was technically still married to her husband Andrew, but they were said to have already called time on their marriage. Their divorce was finalised shortly afterwards. The Silverman's also have one son together.
