In 2013, the X Factor started a relationship with Silverman. However, at the time, she was still said to have been married to her then-husband Andrew. Their romance was only discovered shortly afterwards when Silverman found out she was pregnant with Simon's child.
Speaking to Event magazine, the 56-year-old said: "I'm not proud of the circumstances, I can't hold my head up about it."
He added that while Silverman's pregnancy was unexpected, he felt a connection to his unborn child.
"This was not something I planned," he said. "But I remember going to the first scan with Lauren. I called him Tad because he looked like a tadpole. Something just kicked in. I felt unbelievably protective of both of them. I just absolutely want him. I just hadn't known that before."
