Will was speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Los Angeles premiere of his film Concussion.
He has been married to Jada Pinkett Smith for 20 years.
He said: "You can't expect it to be easy. It's like our marriage was the mist difficult, gruelling, excruciating thing that we have ever taken on in our lives. And you know we're just not quitters."
The pair have two children together, Jaden, 17, and Willow, 15.
Will also has 23-year-old son Trey from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino.
