The actor features in an interview in the Christmas edition of Radio Times when he made the comments.
Discussing the issue of inheritance tax and financial incentives for marriage, the 44-year-old is quoted as saying: "We might have married already... I'm just saying – mind your own business.
"My job is public, why should my private life be public as well? We live in an age where you have to know everything and that's tedious. If people make a fuss over me, I think, 'Get out more'."
His comments come just months after his partner was declared insolvent after failing to pay tax.
Freeman and Abbington, 39, have been together since 2000. They have two children together.
