According to the Daily Star, the X Factor judge argued with her partner Jean-Bernard "because he didn't lift a finger during their 18-month marriage", and it was "laziness" that pushed the 32-year-old to "breaking point".
A source is also quoted by the newspaper as saying: "We never really knew what he [Jean-Bernard] did apart from 'supporting' Cheryl."
One of the Frenchman's friends is said to have told the publication: "As far as I know, he hasn't lifted a finger or done any work of any kind since he met his wife. His family home is in the countryside, in Aix-en-Provence.
"His family are not super-rich but they have some money. I wouldn't say they're multi-millionaires like Cheryl."
It was recently claimed that Fernandez-Versini was planning to divorce her husband, but neither party has commented on the claims. The couple tied the knot in Mustique in the Caribbean in July 2014 after just three months together.
