Police Appeal Following Park Birth

Police in Scotland have appealed for information into an incident where a woman gave birth in a park three months ago.

According to reports, it is understood the baby girl died after the delivery in Parc Seymour, Newport on 18 or 19 October last year, and police have now said the mother may be under pressure to keep the details a secret.

Currently, forensic analysis of birth materials and tracing pregnant women from the area, has been unable to identify the mother.

They added that they believe the mother could be a schoolgirl. A fresh appeal for information has now been launched to find her, and teachers have been asked to think of any pupil whose behaviour has changed, or who has avoided taking part in activities.

Detective SuperIntendent Ruth Price said police were working on the basis that the baby girl did not survive. She added that they are hopeful DNA profiling will lead to the mother's identification, but that she could be under pressure to keep the birth a secret.
