The claims come just a few months after McDaid and Courteney Cox ended their engagement.
According to The Sun, McDaid, who hails from Northern Ireland, met Scully at the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles last month.
A source is quoted by the newspaper as saying: "Johnny is very laid back and often found the courtship with Courteney very smothering. Now that he's single again, he just wants to have fun and enjoy himself.
"He feels [he and Meghann] have a lot in common and wants to get to know her better.
"Johnny and Meghann seemed to get on straightaway. It's early days but they're into each other and both seem excited to see where it leads."
McDaid, 39, and 51-year-old Cox started dating in late 2013, having been introduced by mutual friend Ed Sheeran. They announced their engagement in June 2014, but late last year, it was reported that the couple had ended their relationship.
