Current figures revealed that of the 15,873 midwives and nurses due to revalidate last month (April), 90.48% (or 14,362) had successfully renewed their registration.
A total of 1,401 have left the register which, the NMC has said, is "in line" with the number they normally expect in any given April.
Jackie Smith, NMC Chief Executive and registrar, said: "Nurses and midwives are clearly embracing revalidation, which should reassure patients and the public they are receiving safe care at the hands of professionals who regularly reflect on their practice.
"We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from those who have gone through the process, with nurses and midwives telling us that they find it realistic, achievable and beneficial.
"Importantly, statistics from the first month show that there has been no increase in the number leaving the register. This is contrary to concerns that revalidation might cause great numbers of registrants to leave. In fact, our register has seen a net increase of 31,000 people over the past six years."

Revalidation Labelled 'Major Success' – NMC
