The 23-year-old, who recently claimed she is pregnant with her first child, is understood to have been in her home city of Liverpool when the incident occurred. Following the reported assault, a photo of the actress lying on the ground was shared to Twitter where a man wrote alongside the image: "Just rock bottomed that big brother s**g, pass it on."
It has since been deleted.
The incident followed a turbulent week for Davis who publicly slammed her ex-boyfriend Jeremy McConnell, whom she claims is the father of her unborn child. She then ended up in hospital for stress.
Davis, who is a prolific user of social media, has not yet commented on the alleged attack, but a source is quoted as saying: "Steph is traumatised by what happened, she's being extra careful at the moment because of the baby.
"It's really shaken her – she can't believe a stranger could treat her like that. Her family are very concerned for her safety. She is stunned someone would do this and share it on social media."
Her mother Pauline, however, has taken to Twitter to hit out at the man who is said to have hit her daughter. She wrote: "You lowlife for assaulting a pregnant woman #gettingchargedmate #witnesses.
"She had just been assaulted and was shocked and shaken and the lowlife who assaulted her took a photo.
"And the lowlife is getting charged for assault... It is currently being dealt with."
According to media reports however, the incident has not been reported to Merseyside Police. There have also been conflicting reports emerging about the incident since.
Davis, 23, recently split from 25-year-old McConnell for the fifth time in just four months.
