Acting Helped Michelle Dockery Cope After Fiancé's Death

Michelle Dockery has opened up about her relationship with fiancé John Dineen, who died from a rare form of cancer in December 2015.

Speaking to The Sun, the Downton Abbey actress revealed that it was acting that helped her through "certain times" of her life.

She explained: "Acting for me has always helped with certain times in my life. I love the characters I'm playing and they allow you to be free to go to those darker places of yourself.

"My family and friends have always been there for me through all of my difficult times, but I don't want to name anyone.

"I am very private about my private life, but I will say that I am very lucky to be doing something that I love," she added.

Dockery, 34, was introduced to Irishman John Dineen in 2013. They were said to have become engaged in February 2015. In December of that year, Dineen, then 34, passed away from a rare form of cancer. The couple had kept his illness private up until his death.
