The pair are believed to have met at a gym club at the age of 14.
Max wrote on Instagram: "Only took me 9 years :-). My amazing FIANCÉ @leahhickton."
Speaking to the Mirror Leah said: "He said after he had been really nervous – even more than when he has to speak on live television.
"But it was all lovely and now I feel so lucky to be engaged to the most perfect guy."
