Police Abandon 'Awkward' Wedding Appeal

West Yorkshire Police's Kirklee Rural branch has dropped a social media request to reunite a couple with their wedding photo album.

It is understood a man found the album in a bin and he decided to hand it into police incase it had been stolen. Police then launched an appeal on Facebook to find the couple in the photographs and reunite them with the item.

However, it soon became apparent that the album had not been stolen after a number of people suggested their may have been a reason it had been dumped in the bin.

The branch later said that this looked like it was the case, and the couple had allegedly separated and that the album would remain with police.

In a post on Facebook, they added: "We like to try and reunite people with lost property....but this has turned out to be totes awkward."

On Twitter, they added: "Wedding Album Mystery SOLVED! Looks like although it was handed in in good faith, the owner doesn't want it back."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "This message was put out with the best intentions – we apologise for any offence caused."
