It is thought the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays could be a factor in the rise in break ups, as couples will not want to spend money or time on someone they do not see a future with.

A similar trend is said to be found in the United States, with relationships ending just before the Thanksgiving holiday. This trend has been dubbed the 'Turkey Dump'.
